Description: Managing Insulin Therapy in Special Situations is a knowledge-based CE activity that provides participants with the skills necessary to manage special situations that may arise in patients using insulin therapy. Participants will learn to identify both frequently occurring and uncommon special situations that necessitate individually tailored insulin regimens for persons with type 2 diabetes. The activity addresses the use of blood glucose monitoring to improve self-management and discusses the selection of insulin products and insulin delivery systems. Since then, pharmacies across the country have been searching for and developing strategies to create sustainable MTM practices.
Description: Migraine headaches are a chronic disorder affecting 17% of all women and 6% of men, but they are often undiagnosed and untreated, studies show approximately one third of all migraine suffers said they had never consulted a physician for this disease. The exact mechanism of migraine attacks is still not understood, but a number of things may trigger them. Although there is no cure, medications can help reduce the frequency and stop the pain of migraine attacks once they start. Patients are often using the wrong medication or use their medications improperly and adherence among patients who use medication therapy to prevent migraine attacks is poor. Pharmacists are in an ideal position to address these problems and assist patients in achieving improved health outcomes, by providing valuable education to migraine patients on the proper timing and usage of their medications, as well as provide information on treatment effectiveness and side effects.

According to recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau, this population will continue to grow, with an estimated doubling from 35 million in 2005 to 70 million in 2030, when 20 percent of Americans will be older than 65. Pharmacists must maintain competency in the care of this population through current knowledge of the unique principles of drug therapy which affect geriatric patients.
